Girard '19 Napa Valley Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Aromas of Santa Rosa plums, sun-kissed blackberries, dusty bay leaves and fennel seeds mingle with scents of toasted oak. On the palate juicy, ripe fruit flavors abound, leading to a finish marked by firm tannins and flavors of baking spice.
The year started out with ample rainfall which kept the soils moist and cool into spring. Summer was marked by warm, even daytime temperatures with few extreme heat spikes. The opportune weather conditions continued into late summer and fall. The harvest was of average volume, if not slightly below average, and the fruit quality was exceptional; allowing us to craft wines with texture, structure, and finesse.
The Vineyard, 400 feet in elevation on Mt. Veeder’s southerly side enjoys morning sunshine and daytime temperatures cooler than the valley floor below. That gentle morning sunshine, coupled with a mix of volcanic and sedimentary soils encourage grapes to ripen with brightness and natural balance, which become wines marked by firm minerality, softer tannins and elegance in the glass, and great aging potential.
