Girard '19 Napa Valley Grenache
Bright ruby in the glass, and endowed with juicy red fruit, candied raspberry and cinnamon spice on the nose. The palate leads with raspberry jam, bramble, red cherry and spicy cracked black pepper. The bright acidity plays well with the refined tannins, ensuring an elegantly structured, food friendly sipper.
The year started out with ample rainfall which kept the soils moist and cool into spring. Summer was marked by warm, even daytime temperatures with few extreme heat spikes. The opportune weather conditions continued
into late summer and fall. The harvest was of average volume, if not slightly below average, and the fruit quality was exceptional; allowing us to craft wines with fresh acidity, texture, structure and finesse.
Sourced from vineyards east of Howell Mountain in an area called Pope Valley, the Grenache and Mourvèdre matured slowly and evenly in this unique area of the Napa Valley. The small amount of Syrah added for color, tannin, and texture hails from the Yountville appellation. This Grenache is a special project by winemaker, Glenn Hugo specifically crafted for our most loyal Girard fans, and can only be found in our Tasting Room, as a perk of Wine Club membership, and online in small quantities.
